Vintage Guitars Rock
Vintage guitars are making a lot of noise in the collectibles market these days. There are few images more iconic in American pop culture than a musician with his guitar. Vintage guitars are sought after by many people simply because of their age and the history of that particular guitar or brand. Like classic cars, vintage guitars are sought after by musicians, collectors and investors worldwide. The term vintage for these purposes refer to guitars manufactured between the early 1920s and early 1970s. Guitars manufactured earlier than 1920 aren't usually considered collectibles because they don't play as well as later guitars. Guitars made before the mid-1930s are generally "primitive" compared to the 1935 to 1969 models. Guitars manufactured after 1972 also don't carry as much value because of mass production, automated manufacturing techniques, and a loss of overall quality. Something to be said for good old hand made guitars. Vintage guitars also have a big advantage vs. new guitars because they keep on gaining value as for new guitars its like buying a car, they depreciate as soon as you walk out of the music store. Vintage guitars are of course used guitars in most cases but these guitars are a select group of used guitars differentiated from other used guitars by generally being built between the end of WWII and prior to the 1980’s. First let’s define “used guitar”, “vintage guitar” and "antique guitar". Many of today's popular musicians play and collect vintage electric and acoustic guitars. Antique guitars as we define them are still used guitars but this group of guitars are generally older than vintage guitars and were built prior to WWII. Because of their age, materials used and hollow body construction many are more fragile than Vintage guitars and therefore not very playable today. When considering a used guitar here are a couple of reasons to consider a used vintage guitar. Every player has their own preferences however we believe vintage guitars have superior tone to most of today's modern guitars and secondly they hold their value. Vintage guitars can be found in a wide range of prices however all vintage guitars generally hold their value. In fact, in recent years many vintage guitars have appreciated significantly. Gibson Gibson guitars are some of the nicest (if not the best) and most expensive guitars on the market. First-timers might seek out the high-profile quality pieces like a Gibson ES-335 or a 1930s-era Martin D-28, both familiar in the marketplace and easily identifiable, but counterfeits are out there so as they say… buyer beware. Fender Fender brought us the Broadcaster, the Esquire, the Nocaster, the Telecaster and the Stratocaster, all of which are considered the first rock and roll guitar models. Jimi Hendrix emblazoned the Fender Stratocaster not only into the hearts and minds of a generation, but into history itself forever fusing it with rock legend. Vintage Guitars are something that over time appreciates in value. So yes, these lovely old guitars are wonderful artifacts of a magical era in pop music and should be collected and treasured by musicians and music lovers alike. |
